As a director, I strive for moments of synchronicity, beauty, laughter, and truth. While I love a narrative, I am not shy around abstraction, especially having rooted my directing practice in physical theatre. I care about stories that challenge us to be more compassionate toward ourselves and others, and I am especially interested in pieces that do this with astute awareness of current sociopolitical issues. I’ve worked on pieces about migrant working class activists advocating fairer conditions, a deep-dive into a young woman’s psyche as she navigates her mental health, the journey of a woman to reclaim her agency and personal narrative, the coming-of-age journey of two gay boys in a council estate, and more. My directing practice is greatly informed by my background as a performer and movement director. One informs how I work sensitively and clearly with actors. The other, even when developing new writing, informs how I incorporate devising, movement, and physical abstraction into my storytelling. I often call myself a ‘facilitative director’, as I believe in fostering a highly collaborative environment that encourages all minds and hearts in the room to participate in co-creation. I believe this can elevate a strong artistic vision to something extraordinary. Welcome to my vision!
